Wairua Tipuna have been performing through out Perth for 13 years under the leadership of Jo Matthews
as well as Kate and Rawiri Kaukau.The Group have performed in Australian National Kapa Haka Competitions in both Melbourne
and Canberra.
Our group are a non profit organisation and have been mainly Ngati Porou Influence,however we have since had the pleasure of Rawiri Kaukau marrying into our family bringing with him his Te Arawa (Tuhourangi,Ngati Pikiao) influence plus we have a mix of Kahungunu and Tuhoe but the door is always open to anyone wishing to perform Kapa Haka from their heart.
In 2004 we had the pleasure of performing with Brenda
Matthews and Lizzy Forbes who have both passed on. We love you both very much and miss you everyday. Ma te atua i manaaki e tiaki korua i roto i te whare o te Atua.
2008 We had 6 of the original performers from Wairua Tipuna go through to Melbourne to represent
W.A. at the Rigionals in Australia since it began over 2 decades ago, this was a lead up to Te Matatini National Competition
in N.Z.
We were lucky to return to Perth with the 1st place trophy for the Waiata Tira (Choral) and came 2nd equal for the whaikorero. 2010 This was another wonderful experience for our group only this
time the Regionals were held in Canberra, again still with 6 of the original Wairua Tipuna performers as well as first timers
and members from other groups who came on board for the experience, we thank you all very much for your participation.
